| Testing a Ring Light |
|
Today my in China ordered ring light arrived. I was curious if it was worth buying it. It was well packaged and came with all described accessiores. I mounted it on a Canon G10, my only non Nikon camera. It comes with the 48LED ring light, adapters so you can mount it on several thread sizes and the battery compartment. The ring light also comes with an AC adapter. I tried to us it with Alkaline batteries, but that was a disappointment. It need POWER. not alkaline batteries. So I used the AC adapter for this test. Later I will try it with rechargables like the manual advises.
The light is bright if you look into it, but during photography it's mayby a bit unsufficient. Compared with my Nikon DSLR where I can get shutterspeed of 1/750 easily this light results in speeds up to 1/50th when lucky. So the light is "weak" compared to a regular flash. I think you should not compare it wiht a "real" ring flash.
Maybe I will add more detail in this article, but for now this is it.. Below some shots made with the ring light so see for yourself.
